While world leaders are meeting at the UN Headquarters in New York in order to discuss the global refugee issue, the Republican candidate’s son Donald Trump Jr. sparked outrage on social media sites after he compared Syrian refugees to Skittles.
Trump Jr. uploaded a picture of a bowl of Skittles to his Twitter account and hinted that the US needs to stop allowing refugees to enter the country. The picture of Skittles featured the following message: “If I had a bowl of skittles and I told you just three would kill you. Would you take a handful? That’s our Syrian refugee problem.”
“This image says it all,” added Trump Jr. in the caption. “Let’s end the politically correct agenda that doesn’t put America first.” According the ABC News, this isn’t the first time that Trump Jr. has compared refugees to poisoned food.
Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Wrigley Americas Denise Young responded: “Skittles are candy. Refugees are people. We don’t feel it’s an appropriate analogy.” Wrigley Americas is the company that manufactures Skittles.
