A newborn baby named Waleed became the two millionth resident in Gaza, turning the Gaza Strip into one of the most densely populated regions on earth. Shortly after Waleed was born, another baby became Gaza’s 2,000,001st resident. According to the Palestinian Population Authority, 4,983 babies were born last September.

The Palestinian Ministry of Interior reported today (Thursday) that the number of residents in the Gaza Strip has surpassed 2 million. Baby Waleed Shaath was born yesterday and became the two-millionth resident.
Shortly after Waleed was born, Lana was born and the population grew even more. The Palestinian Minister of Interior announced that Gaza’s population is compiled of 50.66% males and 49.34% females. According to the UN, the Gaza Strip is one of the most densely populated places in the world.
According to the Palestinian Population Authority, 4.983 babies were born last September with an average of 166 births add a day. The authority added that the average mortality rate in September was 10 deaths per day with a total of 291 deaths at the end of the month.
According to the UN, it is possible that by 2020, Gaza will have become an inhabitable territory. They claim that the current socio-economical state of Gaza is the lowest since 1967.
