The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) published a classified ad on its website today offering a project management position located in “Jerusalem, the State of Palestine.” The Local Access Associate would be charged with managing projects transporting humanitarian and development goods and personnel in the region. The Israeli delegation to the UN condemned the ad and called for an investigation.
In a statement made earlier today, Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon demanded that the UN agency remove the ad immediately. “It is unacceptable for UN agencies to not only attempt to change the political facts on the ground, but to question the connection between the State of Israel and our capital of Jerusalem,” he said. “This posting must be removed immediately and UNOPS must conduct a complete overhaul of its operating procedures to ensure that such inappropriate behavior not occur again.”
Though the UN has yet to comment on the incident, the job posting has since been removed from the UNOPS site.
