According to an undercover investigation conducted by Channel 2 News, ultra-Orthodox men are not inspected by a metal detector or full-body scan during Shabbat and holidays.
As part of the investigation, Channel 2 sent an investigative journalist, David Suleiman, through all the entrances to the Western Wall dressed as an ultra-Orthodox man. Suleiman managed to enter through three of the entrances with two knives and a fake explosive hidden in his jacket.

The current policy is that ultra-Orthodox men are exempt from passing through the metal detector, while secular individuals are checked as normal. This area, which is heavily guarded, requires all visitors to remove all belongings and pass through a metal detector. Suleiman was not checked nor asked a single question. He was able to reach the wall itself, among dozens of praying men.
The Israel Police responded to the investigation stating that security is overseen by the civilian company Amishav. Upon learning of Channel 2’s findings, Amishav issued a statement that it will establish a professional committee that will review the issues and recommend changes.
