In a report by Politico, three former senior US intelligence officials sad that Israel was behind the placement of cellphone surveillance devices found near the White House and other sensitive locations around Washington, DC.
“It was clear that the Israelis were responsible,” said a former senior intelligence official in the report.
Analysis of these listening devices are handled by the FBI’s counterintelligence division. It involves examining the devices to determine their origin by looking at where the parts and pieces come from, how old are they, and who had access to them.
The article also insinuates the vast difference between how the Trump administration treats infractions by Israel compared to other countries.
”’Unlike most other occasions where blatant foreign espionage incidents were discovered on US soil, the Trump government did not reprimand the Israeli government, and Israel’s behavior was of no consequence,” said one of the former officials.
Elad Strohmayer, a spokesman for the Israeli embassy reacted to these reort by saying “These allegations are absolute nonsense. Israel is not spying in the United States, period”.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office also decried the report as propostrous by saying that it is a blatant lie. ”There is a longstanding commitment and a directive from the Israeli government not to engage in any intelligence operations in the U.S. This directive is strictly enforced without exception.”
The Trump administration and the FBI have refused to comment on the allegations.
