The US State Department and US Treasury announced that Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh has been added to the terrorist blacklist. The decision imposes sanctions on Haniyeh and another Gaza-based terrorist organization that freeze their assets within the US and prevent US citizens from conducting business with the newly designated terrorists.

The US Treasury and the State Department issued an official statement on Wednesday, designating Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh a global terrorist. A Gaza-based terrorist organization funded by Iran was also placed on the blacklist.
The statement published by the US State Department said that sanctions will be imposed on Haniyeh and the Gaza-based terrorist organization, freezing any US-based assets and preventing US citizens from conducting business with the newly designated terrorists.
“These designations seek to deny Ismail Haniyeh, Harakat al-Sabireen, Liwa al Thawra, and HASM the resources they need to plan and carry out further terrorist attacks,” the statement reads. “Among other consequences, all of their property and interests in property subject to US jurisdiction are blocked, and US persons are generally prohibited from engaging in any transactions with them.”
