After an American delegation led by US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner visited the Middle East last week, a senior US official said that Washington is working to persuade Arab leaders to support an agreement that would bring peace to the region.
Israeli and US officials said that in the heart of the potential regional agreement is a serious compromise between Israel and the Palestinians. In 2014, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu talked about some Israeli settlements in the West Bank being part of a future Palestinian state.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu delivered a speech during an event marking 50 years of Israeli settlements Monday night. “Uprooting settlements will not bring about peace,” he said. “We came to stay forever. Samaria is the key to our future.”
