Large police forces were called to a house in Hadera, Israel, following reports that a 14-year-old boy was being held in an apartment by his parents.
The Israel Police detained the parents for questioning and transferred the child to the welfare services. The boy lived with his parents in a neglected and sealed apartment. Other than them, no one knew of his existence- neither the welfare authorities nor the education system.

“Their lifestyle seemed very strange to me,” a neighbor said. “They were always secluded and living in fear. I knocked on their door and thought that they would open. They didn’t open the door and I smelled something weird. It didn’t make sense to me that someone would be living in this house.”

“I went to the back area of the house and saw the boy in a room with bars,” he explained. “When the police entered, they saw that the house was a mess and full of trash. They couldn’t stand it. The social workers had tears in their eyes. The boy was a real zombie. This was the second time that I saw him-the first was nine years ago and since then I didn’t see him.”
