The new F-35 fighter jets that arrived in Israel on Monday performed their first flight in Israeli skies.
For the first time ever, a fifth generation fighter jet with stealth abilities was flown by Israeli pilots. Commander of the “Mighty One” Squadron Lieutenant Colonel Yotam and his deputy flew the jets for approximately 1 hour while accompanied by F-16 jets.
On Monday, the first two F-35 fighter jets that Israel bought from the US have landed at an airbase in southern Israel. Their departure from Italy was delayed due to the local weather conditions. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot, and US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter were among those who participated in the welcoming ceremony.
