Yesterday, hundreds of Palestinians attended a rally calling on Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to resign in Gaza City’s Saraya Square.
Demonstrators waved Palestinian flags and held up anti-Abbas protest signs at the event, while they listened to speeches criticizing Abbas.
Many residents of the Gaza Strip are unhappy with the president over decisions he has made to cut funding to the strip’s Hamas-led parallel government.
The Gaza Strip has been under Hamas control since its conflict with Fatah in 2007, while the West Bank continues to be administered by Abbas and his internationally recognized government. Repeated efforts to reconcile the two sides through negotiation have been met with failure.
