The IDF Combat Engineering Corps’ special operations unit is currently working to establish a new unit whose mission would be to fight in the depths of enemy territories that have been infected with chemical materials. Furthermore, the unit would carry out operational tasks in the fields of explosives, bomb removal and the terror tunnel threat. Watch the unit’s exercise.
The IDF’s Yahalom Unit, which is the Combat Engineering Corps’ special operations unit and is considered one of the IDF’s most elite units, conducted its first unit exercise since its number of combat soldiers doubled.
The exercise held in Israel’s Jordan Valley included training a variety of Yahalom’s abilities such as raiding bunkers, urban warfare and charging in an open area. In addition, the unit practiced its unique professional tasks which include detecting and destructing underground tunnels, opening passages in minefields, locating and destroying cargo locations, removing bombs and aid during ground maneuvers in Gaza and Lebanon.
Yahalom is currently working towards creating an additional unit called Saifun whose mission would be to fight in the depths of enemy territories that have been infected with chemical materials. The IDF has come to understand that future battles could leave combat soldiers to deal with this unconventional threat in the battlefield.
