Several weeks after the IDF completed its pilot experiment to examine the suitability of females as soldiers in the Armored Corps, the First Lady of Israel invited the soldiers to light the Hanukkah candles with her.
Today (Sunday), First Lady of Israel Nechama Rivlin lit the Hanukkah candles with the first female IDF tank soldiers. “What you do is incredible, brave and groundbreaking,” Rivlin told them.
“This year, women seem to be revolutionizing many sectors,” the president’s wife stated. “They march forward and talk, set boundaries, demand recognition, justice and equality. Is it not clear that we women are strong? Is it not obvious that we can do whatever we want?”

Later, the soldiers told the First Lady about their experiences as part of the IDF’s pilot experiment to examine the suitability of females as soldiers in the Armored Corps. “I’ll tell you this,” Rivlin concluded, “what you are doing is wonderful and brave not because you are women but because you are doing something significant, just like the guys serving with you.”
