The Israeli Labor MK said Israel was willing to pursue a peace deal, but would respond forcefully to any act of terror against it.
During a European Union summit in Rome on Friday, Israeli Labor MK Erel Margalit slammed the Palestinian representative for praising hunger-striking prisoners.
Margalit brought up an embarrassing recent video showing Marwan Barghouti, the leader of the hunger strike, secretly eating a chocolate snack bar in his prison cell.
“If you want courageous leadership, you need to be leading a process of peace, not a process of violence,” Margalit said to the Palestinian representative after the latter interrupted him.
“We’re not pretending that things are easy. I respect the leader of the Palestinian Authority, but I do not respect leaders who instigate terror,” he added. “Both parties want to lead to a solution, but if terror is instigated against us, we will act fierecly.”
