The attack occurred outside a synagogue in the neighborhood of Stamford Hill which has a large Orthodox Jewish community.

The director of the Jewish community in North London has said that there was “no doubt” about the anti-Semitic nature of the attack, and that anti-Semitic attacks have been on the rise recently in Stamford Hill.

The Jewish community in Stamford Hill asked the London police to be vigilant against the rise in anti-Semitic incidents.

Antisemitic provocations have been on the rise in the past couple of years in the UK. During 2018 the United Kingdom witnessed an unprecedented number of anti-Semitic incidents.

According to a report by the Community Security Trust (CST), a Jewish community organization that monitors anti-Semitism, there were more than 1,650 reported anti-Semitic incidents in 2018.

This represents a 16% increase over the previous record set just a year earlier when there were a total of 1,420 anti-Semitic incidents. In turn, 2017 had surpassed the previous record of 2016, in which there were 1,375 incidents.

Of the 1,652 incidents, 23 per cent were via social networks, a 54 per cent increase over the previous year.

David Delew, Executive Director of the Community Security Trust in the UKsaid: “Three years of growing anti-Semitic incidents show the proportion of the problem facing the Jewish community. This is happening throughout society and the country and reflects the deep divisions in our country and politics. The Jewish people are on the receiving end of this hatred, but they should not leave us alone to fight it.”
