Earlier today (Wednesday), a truck swerved, for no apparent reason, into an oncoming commercial van killing five men and injuring another four. The casualties, including one critically injured, were evacuated by Magen David Adom helicopters and ambulances to the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa where they are being treated. Footage appears to directly contradict eyewitness accounts that blamed the commercial van.
Following today’s (Wednesday) fatal vehicular accident in the northern West Bank which resulted in the deaths of 5 people, four casualties are still being treated at Rambam Medical Center in Haifa. One of the casualties is in critical condition, while the remaining three are in light-to-moderate condition. Israel Police continue their investigation into the circumstances that led to the accident and have yet to identify which party is responsible. However, security cameras on site may help shed some light on the tragedy.
In the footage, the truck appears to swerve out of the right lane for no obvious reason, hitting head-first a commercial van traveling in opposite lane. Within a few seconds the van turned over on its side, a man appeared out of one of the openings. Eyewitnesses present at the scene claimed that the driver of the van was at fault after he allegedly attempted an overtaking which supposedly forced the truck driver to deviate from his lane. Yet, the footage obtained fails to confirm eyewitness accounts of the accident.

“The sight was shocking. I saw a completely crushed and destroyed commercial vehicle,” said an ambulance medic, Wael Jamal, who treated the casualties. “Four men in their forties were trapped inside the car and another man lay outside the car. They were unconscious, not breathing and without a pulse. After a medical examination, we were forced to declare the five, dead.”
A large number of rescue forces, including Magen David Adom and firefighters, were called to the scene to rescue the wounded trapped inside. First responders provided medical treatment, including prolonged CPR efforts after which the men were pronounced dead. The remaining casualties were evacuated Rambam Hospital for further treatment with the help of two MDA helicopters dispatched to the scene.

Today’s severe accident occurred only two days after another fatal accident took place in the north, in which a 47-year-old father along with his 7-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter were killed. The mother and two other children are still in moderate-to-severe condition at the Western Galilee Hospital in Nahariya.
According to the Israel National Road Safety Authority, since the beginning of the year, 219 people have been killed in car accidents while 23 were killed since the beginning of July.
